Lateef Jakande Media Roundtable: Seasoned Industry Experts Listed For Discussion

Seasoned industry experts are set to discuss the impacts and legacy of the late media icon and the former Executive Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande’s monumental contributions to journalism, governance, and societal development.

They will also be looking into the future of the media sector in Nigeria, at The Lateef Kayode Jakande Memorial Media Roundtable which is an initiative of the Mass Communication Department, Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) in conjunction with DSE Foundation, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at the Ikorodu Campus of LASUSTECH, starting at 10:00 AM.

The event with the theme: “Journalism in Digital Age: Lessons from Jakande’s Legacy”, aims to honour Alhaji Jakande’s monumental contributions to journalism, governance, and societal development while fostering meaningful discussions on the future of the media industry in Nigeria.

Chief Tunde Fanimokun, a prominent Nigerian, seasoned administrator and technocrat who served as the Permanent Secretary in Lagos State during the administration of Alhaji Lateef Jakande, will chair the event, while the keynote speaker is Mr Gbenga Adefaye, Provost, Nigeria Institute of Journalism (NIJ).

The roundtable will feature a distinguished lineup of industry experts as discussants: Mr Taiwo Obey – Founder and Director Journalism Clinic, Mrs Adesola Kosoko – General Manager, Lagos Television, Mr Lekan Odufodurin – Executive Director Media Development Network and Chief Monsor Olowoshago – Publisher and Editor in Chief Oriwu Sun Newspaper.

Brief Profiles of Keynote Speaker, Panelists

Gbenga ADEFAYE fnge, fnij,
Gbenga Adefaye is the Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos. A former president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Adefaye was the General Manager/Editor-in-Chief of @Vanguardngrnews, Lagos www.vanguardngr.com. He was a member of the Governing Council of the University of Lagos as well as the Court of Governors of the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos, Idi -Araba, Lagos.
A professional journalist trained in Mass Communication at the universities of Nigeria and Lagos, he also had executive education at the Lagos Business School, National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, (NIPSS) Jos, and at Harvard Business School, Boston, USA.
Adefaye was editor of VANGUARD for 10 years. A Fellow of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Fellow of @nij_lagos and was honoured by the School of Media and Communication of the Pan Atlantic University in 2013.

Mr Taiwo Obe
Founder and Director of The Journalism Clinic which has a vision to raise the next generation of first-rate journalists in Nigeria. Over four decades of experience across the broad spectrum of communication spanning journalism and integrated marketing communication practised in Nigeria and overseas. Fellow of the Nigerian Guild of Editors and a Commonwealth Professional Fellow.

Lekan Otufodunrin
Otufodunrin is a vastly experienced multimedia journalist, communication specialist and media trainer.
He is currently the Executive Director, Media Career Development Network.
Otufodunrin was former Managing Editor and Sunday Editor of The Nation Newspapers. He was also former Group News, Political and City Editor of The Punch Newspaper.
He is an adjunct lecturer at the University of Lagos, Yaba College of Technology and the Nigeria Institute of Journalism

Adesola Ibironke Kosoko, General Manager, LTV

Mrs Kosoko has over 25 years experience in broadcasting, working in both radio and television as an on air presenter and content provider.
She is a professional voice – over artist with over 70 brands in her portfolio and a master of ceremony of repute. She has worked with many popular brands and names, both locally and internationally, as team member or as the main anchor.
Aderonke Ibironke obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A English-Linguistics) from Obafemi Awolowo University, and a master’s degree in Public and International Affairs. An award -winning broadcaster who endeared viewers with her radio and television programmes for three decades.
Ibironke made history as one of the few women to run a government established television station when she was appointed the General Manager for the Lagos State Television, LTV8.

Monzor Olowoshago
Chief Monzor Dawodu Olowosago, publisher of Oriwu Sun Newspaper, Nigeria’s first authentic community newspaper.

He is a journalist per excellence. A product of the College of Journalism, Fleet Street, East Central London, EC4. He has worked as Production Editor of the Nationalist Newspaper owned by late Ibrahim Waziri in 1979, served as a subeditor in1980 at the Concord Newspaper under the leadership of Dele Giiwa, where he worked alongside ace Nigerian journalists like Helen May Ezekiel, Mike Awoyinfa, Dimgba Igwe, Sunny Ojeagbase, Banji Adeyanju, Chuma Adichie and many more renowned writers.
In 1985 he set up a community newspaper called the Oriwu Sun, and he has since then managed the press till date. Through his contribution to developmental communication in Nigeria,
Monzor Olowosago has won over 40 awards including Outstanding Community Newspaper in Nigeria by the Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN).
